 A Portable Optical Scanner is a type of scanner that can be moved across any object by hand. They work both manually and automatically- manually by moving the scanner along an image face of a document to be scanned, and automatically by an automatic moving device that places the document relative to the scanner.

 Who are the leading providers? Fujitsu, Xerox, Canon, Epson

 This scanner usually includes built-in illumination and optical systems that help accomplish the scanning of the object

 Most portable scanners are used for acquiring information from printed media and for any other directed to general purpose uses. It is usually used for scanning small-sized documents such as checks, photos, business cards and medical cards

 On the down side, this device does not have any other purposes other than what it is specifically intended for.
