A Portable Optical Scanner is a type of scanner that can be moved across any object by hand. They work both manually and automatically- manually by moving the scanner along an image face of a document to be scanned, and automatically by an automatic moving device that places the document relative to the scanner.
Who are the leading providers? Fujitsu, Xerox, Canon, Epson
This scanner usually includes built-in illumination and optical systems that help accomplish the scanning of the object
Most portable scanners are used for acquiring information from printed media and for any other directed to general purpose uses. It is usually used for scanning small-sized documents such as checks, photos, business cards and medical cards
On the down side, this device does not have any other purposes other than what it is specifically intended for.
